Halden Home is the retailer that turns up most often in our under-budget rooms, for a simple reason: their palette is already warm. A lot of mid-priced furniture is made in a cool grey-beige that fights a dark wall. Halden’s is not.

What they are good for

Upholstery in the £200–£600 band, and lighting under £150. The armchairs are the strongest part of the range — compact frames, which is the hard thing to find at this price, and legs that are part of the structure rather than screwed into a plate.

Where we would not use them

Anything that has to look solid at close range. The case furniture is veneered chipboard, which is normal at this price and fine for a side table that lives under a lamp, less fine for a console in a hallway where people put their hands on it.

Shipping and returns

They ship to the UK, Ireland and Australia. Australian delivery is the slow route, so check the lead time before you plan a room around it. European readers will generally do better with a retailer shipping from within the EU — there are several in our catalogue.
